Reading the Fine Print: CBD Scams at work

Shark Tank CBD Scam

Let's Set the CBD Trial Offer record Straight

If you’ve bounced around the internet (web) and found a site that has CBD and trusted it, good for you. If you found a site with CBD products online that you bought from but they did a “bait and switch” with you or kept charging your credit card, then welcome to the club!

It’s not the first time scammers entered an industry and decided to prey upon people who really just want good products at good prices. Scammers take all shapes and forms. One of the most common scams is the “too good to be true” offer or one that is more like a “Trial Offer”. If you’re looking to buy CBD online instead of shopping for “CBD Near Me” with your local stores, then be sure to read this entire article to learn some features which will save you a great deal of hassle in the future.

Buy CBD Online

It’s safe to buy CBD online. But, there’s a catch. If you’re wary of buying products online, no matter what the products are, then you’re likely a safer consumer and your purchases are probably safer than most. Being wary when you’re online, whether you’re shopping, social media trolling, or whatever, is a good thing. This is why reputable vendors of CBD don’t do things that set up the “red flags” which are triggered when the average person sees something “fishy”. When it comes to buying CBD products online, it’s no different from buying any products from any vendor online – you really need to do a bit of quick homework first.

First off, never buy from an online vendor who doesn’t use HTTPS or a secured connection for their web store. Just look at your browser address bar and make sure the connection to the store is a secured connection. Some fly by night vendors who are trying to separate you from your hard earned money will create a quick website and put a “buy CBD Now” link in place and voila! They’re raking in some quick cash.

Reputable CBD and Hemp vendors like the team at Carolina Hemp Hut take every step possible to ensure that your online order of CBD products is safe and secure and fulfilled with reputable products.

How to detect a Scammer with CBD

Unless you work in the CBD/Hemp industry as the team at Carolina Hemp Hut does, you’re more likely not going to notice the telltale signs of people trying to slime their way into your wallets. We also know that if you have a bad experience online with the purchase of CBD products (Buy CBD Online), you’re also not likely to try again. This is unfair to reputable and well-trusted vendors such as Carolina Hemp Hut. This is why we love taking the time to investigate the scammers and bring them into the light for everyone to see.

How to investigate whether a CBD Source is reputable

  1. Look for the CBD Free Trial
  2. Check whether the source is a PO Box, a PMB, or someone’s house
  3. Read the Terms and Conditions
  4. Check Testimonial links for accuracy or validity
  5. Click on “Related Content” links to see if valid results are shown
  6. Click on the Privacy Policy to see whether it works and shows valid data
  7. Check for Certificate of Analysis links
  8. Verify whether site has a phone number to call for support
  9. Examine whether CBD vendor makes clearly false or unsupported claims (such as “kills cancer”)

Some Clear Indicators that You’ve found a Scammer

Scammers aren’t going to work too hard to create original content after they’ve already had success with a scam in the past. The typical scammer will regurgitate CBD product content from other campaigns and simply change the name of the product along with the corresponding scammer address (web site and “business address”). They’ll also change a few photos and they’re done. Relaunch the campaign and wait for new suckers to arrive.

Here are some images which are repeated with one group of scammers found on the web.

Beware of the Free Trial Offer or great SALE on CBD online

Whole Greens CBD Trial Offer Scam

Just before the holidays in 2019, LifeStream Labs (also known by MANY other names) launched their Holiday Sale with a Free Trial offer for CBD products. The offer included very weak CBD oil that was very over-priced. The more evil part of the scam was their trial offer wasn’t a single shipment, but they keep charging your credit card monthly a very high amount for the product they continue to ship each month. Yes, you get subpar product from LifeStream or Whole Greens and you pay for it, dearly.

Beware of the Free Trial Offer or great SALE on CBD online

Pay attention to the Lab Coat Cuties

Notice the stethoscope in the image. If you see a stethoscope casually draped around the neck of some web model, run. You’re better off tossing your cash into the air. Reputable vendors of CBD may mention where medical professionals support their product anecdotally, but they’re not going to say “doctor approved” or show doctors or nurses proudly displaying their product for you. When you see the Lab Coat Cutie, it’s likely a scam. Plus, if you pay attention to MORE THAN ONE of the emails or ads with CBD products with Free Trials or Super Deals, you’re likely to see the patter where the same Lab Coat Cutie is used for multiple ads with very similar sales text.

Free Trial offer CBD Shark Tank

Shark Tank CBD Oil? Jamie Richardson As Seen On Shark Tank Available Here

Yeah, you read that with Shark Tank. That makes it really a big red flag. If you see Jamie Richardson on a site, it’s likely fake and built to scam you. Yes, it’s possible it may be legit, but don’t count on it. If you’re a reputable dealer of CBD products, you’re more likely to keep promotional images of others to a minimum or very scarce.

We care: We Earn our Customers' Trust

When searching for CBD and hemp products online (like when you search for “Buy CBD online” or “Buy Hemp online”), you’re going to get a lot of valid CBD vendor sites showing. Take a moment and examine each to ensure that the links you visit don’t have medical claims or “too good to be true” deals. Carolina Hemp Hut has had some super deals before (like we have one now where we are giving away a year’s supply of Hemp Oil Extract/CBD), but they’re typically a giveaway or simple sale that is to reduce or eliminate surplus inventory.

Stores like Carolina Hemp Hut are built around a physical presence like the main store at 137 Mayo Street, Hillsborough, NC 27278. Scammers like to hide behind UPS store mailboxes, PO Boxes, and corporate park offices (where you’re never likely to visit for retail purchases).

CBD Scammer: LifeStream Labs

Buying CBD Near Me

“CBD Near Me” is one common search term many people use to find local vendors of CBD. This is a reasonable search which will provide both legit and scam results. For the most part, local SEO and searches tend to provide more legitimate than not. However, the ads that result from the search are often associated with scammers. Most of these are easily avoided if you just look to the SERP (search engine results page) info that is search results only and not the “Ad” results that are also returned.

When you’re looking for a CBD vendor near you, go ahead and investigate the target vendors with their street addresses. Are they in a retail establishment? Are they in a PO Box?

Buying CBD online

We don’t want people to stay away from CBD online. We want people to be careful when they buy it. We’ve written articles in the past regarding COAs (certificates of analysis) and checking up on the quality of CBD products. These resources are good for people to investigate when looking for natural health options such as CBD online. You’ll want to email or call vendors too – just to be sure they respond with good answers and are prompt in their responses. If you call a vendor and all you get after three calls is a voice mail during business hours, you’re likely better off moving to the next search result.

When buying CBD online, it’s a good idea to check on their Google or Yelp or similar review as well. Stores like Carolina Hemp Hut, both physical and online, have reviews on these platforms and more. To check up on the reviews of the online scammers, it’s also easy. Just search for something like “[name of vendor] reviews” in Google or your favorite search engine. For example, here’s LifeStream Labs.

Shopping for CBD

We think that the experience around CBD and Hemp Products should be a pleasure and not a nightmare. With educated consumers working to clean up the slime that occurs with any newly popular industry, we’ll be able to steer through more of the mess and into clean and safe transactions.

Does CBD and Hemp Help Fight off COVID19?

Hemp is being considered in many ways as a possible treatment for things such as COVID19, inflammatory diseases and auto-immune diseases.

People are asking, "What can be done about COVID?" Researchers are pushing hard to find out what can be done to boost immunity and fight the disease. Moreover, many people are speculating as to the effectiveness of products containing CBD or hemp oil extract and COVID19 mitigation.

Scientists working for Pathway Rx have published research related to their study of Cannabis (with emphasis on legal hemp and CBD) that shows significant potential as a possible treatment of COVID-19. At the same time, consumer watchdog groups and those interested in blocking cannabis as a health option have been expressing concern over any unproven medical claims related to hemp.

This tug-of-war has been confusing for customers who are seeking natural set of tools to help individual health situations such as immunity boosting, discomfort from pain or anxiety or even insomnia.

It's important to note that there is only one specific drug containing a high dose of purified cannabidiol (CBD) that has been approved for use as a medical treatment (of a particular set or seizure disorders). While the FDA has made it clear that no business selling cannabinoids and other natural products can make claims as to whether their products actually help people, businesses are able to describe limited aspects of the benefits of the products. Many consumers find many naturally occurring cannabinoids, contained within hemp oil extract products have helped alleviate discomfort. While these are purely anecdotal, people are discovering that Hemp does help.

While hemp oil from hemp seed pressing is not included in the study, hemp oil extract from various Canadian-government approved Industrial hemp strains were. A small portion of this study group proved to be worthy of additional scrutiny.

Einstein Definition of Insanity

Is Hemp ok for COVID19?

Even though the testing is still in place, preliminary findings are positive. Pathways Rx is continuing their study into the various cultivars which are showing promise in reducing the impact of the COVID19 infections.

Data collected from previous studies conducted in collaboration with Swysh and commercial partner Sundial Growers reveals that some medical cannabis cultivars can help reduce the severity and complications of COVID-19 disease

The recent study, written by six researchers, examined 400 Health Canada-approved strains of cannabis. A group of 13 strains that were rated as sativa with a high in CBD concentration may be useful and helpful in reducing the impact of COVID19 infections.

The research paper was submitted recently for peer-review, a vital step in assuring the broader acceptance of cannabis products for acknowledged health benefits. When the reviews have been completed, who knows what will happen with CBD and cannabinoids with COVID19 treatments, given today's very odd political and emotional environment.

The first study suggests that a limited sample (from the 13 strains) of high CBD Cannabis Sativa extracts modulate ACE2 gene expression and ACE2 protein levels in "gateway tissues of the COVID-19 causing virus and also have the potential to inhibit its entry into cells, curtail disease spread and reduce mortality." The entire study was conducted using artificial human 3D models of oral, airway, and intestinal tissues.

The second study examines the use of cannabis extracts for taming the cytokine storm will be published soon.

What is Hemp Seed Oil?

What is Hemp Seed Oil

In our earlier article on Hemp Oil, we examined its source and its commonly attributed benefits. We discussed a little about “What exactly is hemp oil?”

We considered it’d be very helpful to present the most commonly asked questions with regard to Hemp Oil and its cousin, Hemp Oil Extract (including CBD).

What is hemp oil good for?

Hempseed oil is often referred to as “hemp oil,” and it’s harvested by cold-pressing hemp seeds. Hemp seeds, as you may already know, are the seeds of the Cannabis plants. In the United States, the most common seed products come from the Cannabis Sativa plants. Hemp seeds have a rich nutrient profile, lots of good fats and fatty acids and carries a wide range of nutrients. Hemp seed oil can help skin health, inflammation, brain & hearth health. Hemp seed oil is a worthy addition into anyone’s diet.

Is hemp oil and CBD oil the same thing?

Hemp Oil is often also called Hempseed Oil. It’s very often confused with Hemp Oil Extract. Although the pressed hemp seeds result in very nutritious and beneficial anti-inflammatory properties in Hemp Oil, they’re NOT the same thing as CBD. Cannabidiol or CBD is just one of the many cannabinboids found within the extract from the flowers and often the stems and leaves (whole plant extract). CBD and the other cannabinoids have shown great promise in assisting with discomfort from many physical and psychological problems.Carolina Hemp Hut offers CBD and Hemp products Near Me

Does Hemp Oil help you sleep?

It’s possible to find retailers claiming that hemp oil aids in sleep or that it makes you sleepy. While the jury is still out on how effective CBD and related cannabinoids are for sleep, there has been no proof that hemp seed extract or hemp oil is useful for improving sleep directly.

Is Hemp Oil safe to take?

Since Hemp Oil is different from CBD and other cannabinoids resulting from the extract of the aerial parts of the Hemp Plant, it’s both readily available and legal in all 50 States. Many people find it useful in salads and recipes as it assists in boosting beneficial Omega fatty acids. As with other diet-related oils, Hemp Oil is safe to take as long as too much is not consumed at one time. This may often result in diarrhea or intestinal discomfort.

What are the benefits of Hemp Oil?

Hemp Seed Oil has a significant amount of naturally occurring linoleic acid and oleic acids. These are known to play a vital role in skin health and anti-aging. Since these cannot be produced by humans naturally, inclusion of hemp seed oil in the diet is beneficial. Hemp Seed oil, however, is exceptional with its inclusion of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), which acts as a powerful anti-inflammatory while simultaneously encouraging skin growth and new cell generation. Skin care products containing hemp seed oil are likely to improve skin health better than non-GLA oils.

Is Hemp Oil useful to treat pain?

Hemp Seed Oil may help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as we age. More significant benefits may appear due to the natural anti-inflammatory aspects of the GLA along with the other Omega-3 fatty acids. If you’re suffering from eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, or similar, then hemp seed oil may be an important and helpful weapon in your health arsenal. While the anti-inflammatory properties of hemp oil are wonderful, there’s limited abatement from discomfort in most cases.

Is Hemp Oil good for a beauty regimen or skin care?

Absolutely. The naturally occurring lionoleic acid and oleic acids help with skin care immensely. The oil acts as a mild anti-inflammatory agent while working naturally with the skin – not clogging pores as many people would expect. Plus, it’s lower price point as compared to over the counter and premium beauty products makes is a good choice for a more natural and affordable approach to health and beauty.

Natural Health

I’m sure you’ve heard the old definition of insanity often attributed to Albert Einstein: “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”.

The real definition of insanity is “the state of being seriously mentally ill; madness.”

This is really boiled down to “Madness” when you consider what insanity really is. Is it madness to keep doing the same things for your health and expect your body to suddenly become “healthier”?

Most people don’t change their health practices at all unless they have a life changing event. A life changing event could be the death of a loved one from some health concern, it could be a dire diagnosis of Cardiovascular disease or Cancer, or it could be a warning of pre-diabetes. It’s still shocking that many people don’t make any changes to their lives EVEN WHEN they get news of some health issue that NEEDS ATTENTION.

Too many of us abdicate or give up our responsibility for self-care. We trust a doctor to give us a pill that will “cure”.

Think about yourself right now, have you accepted the word from a trusted medical authority and received a dire prognosis and a prescription? Then visited the pharmacy and got the prescription filled, went home, and started following the prescription without doing ANYTHING ELSE to adjust your health or your life.

Einstein Definition of Insanity

Natural Health vs Modern Medicine

Doctors ARE trusted authorities and you should take advice from them. But, doctors don’t necessarily cover the spectrum of health solutions. There’s an old adage which goes “To a man with a hammer, everything looks like a nail.” What happens when you give a doctor another tool other than a hammer?

Over the next few weeks, I’m going to investigate what health concerns we face most and what things can be done for each without the use of prescriptions and surgeries. This won’t be in any way an insult to the medical profession. Instead, it’s more of a life instruction. Natural Health really starts with YOU making your OWN decisions about YOUR LIFE.

I’m not a trained medical professional. Other than being the son of a doctor and the former husband of a doctor, my medical training consists of helping others in medical school study internal medicine and a little gross anatomy. Of course, I’ve read copiously from many medical studies and journals to learn more about what makes things tick. I trust the advice of learned associates who are medically trained. Plus, I educate from my life experiences.

I’ve been trained under the Ziglar Legacy program as well as the Choose to Win program stemming from the great motivational speaker, Zig Ziglar. I’ve discovered where the positive outlook and goal setting instruments taught within those really shape a more positive outcome with health – when you believe you can do it.

Success for you may just begin right now with identifying your own health problem.

Now’s the time you figure out what you want out of your own life and health. Take a moment and write down what your particular health issue is. If it’s weight, write it down on its own sheet of paper. If it’s Cancer, do the same. If you have others, identify those as well on their own sheet.

In my next article, I’m going to give you the next steps to finding better health success leveraging what a doctor may tell you AND natural health.  Meanwhile, be honest with yourself and take the time to identify the health problem(s) which you may face.

What is Hemp Oil Good for?

what does hemp oil do

What can hemp oil do?

With more people discovering natural health options, more are discovering that oil from the hemp seed is highly nutritious. As you embark upon a more healthy journey in your life, you will also discover that hemp oil has remarkable benefits for your skin health as well. Let's break down what is hemp oil good for with an inside then outside approach to health.

Hemp Oil from the Inside

Hempseed oil is often referred to as “hemp oil,” and it’s harvested by cold-pressing hemp seeds. Hemp seeds, as you may already know, are the seeds of the Cannabis plants. In the United States, the most common seed products come from the Cannabis Sativa plants. Hemp seeds have a rich nutrient profile, lots of good fats and fatty acids and carries a wide range of nutrients. Hemp seed oil can help skin health, inflammation, brain & hearth health. Hemp seed oil is a worthy addition into anyone’s diet.

The more favorable hemp see oils come from a process known as Cold Pressing. The reason a cold-pressed oil is preferred over oil from other methods (even though it produces less oil) is that the resulting oil has better characteristics and benefits of the seed. It's been learned that cold pressing produces lower phosphorous levels. You may be happy to learn that phosphorous is  cause of the grassy flavors of some oils. This strong taste found in non-cold pressed oils tends to be the one factor that keeps people from trying out hemp seed oil (hemp oil) as a dietary booster.

A clean hemp seed oil harvested for human use will provide vitamins and fatty acids. Researchers have discovered where  omega-3 fatty acids have significant impacts on the improvement of our health. Some of these impacts may include:

  1. Omega-3s Can Fight Depression and Anxiety
  2. Omega-3s Can Improve Eye Health
  3. Omega-3s Can Promote Brain Health During Pregnancy and Early Life
  4. Omega-3s Can Improve Risk Factors for Heart Disease
  5. Omega-3s Can Reduce Symptoms of ADHD in Children
  6. Omega-3s Can Reduce Symptoms of Metabolic Syndrome
  7. Omega-3s Can Fight Inflammation
  8. Omega-3s Can Fight Autoimmune Diseases
  9. Omega-3s Can Improve Mental Disorders
  10. Omega-3s Can Fight Age-Related Mental Decline and Alzheimer's Disease
  11. Omega-3s May Help Prevent Cancer
  12. Omega-3s Can Reduce Asthma in Children
  13. Omega-3s Can Reduce Fat in Your Liver
  14. Omega-3s May Improve Bone and Joint Health
  15. Omega-3s Can Alleviate Menstrual Pain
  16. Omega-3 Fatty Acids May Improve Sleep
  17. Omega-3 Fats Are Good For Your Skin

Since hemp oil from the seeds (hemp seed extract) is different from the oil extracted from the flowers, buds and other aerial parts (often called hemp oil extract or sometimes misnamed CBD), it's regulated differently. Typical hemp seed oil contains no THC, CBD or other cannabinoids in traceable amounts. A respectable hemp seed oil has remarkable quantities of the beneficial Omega-3 while keeping it in a safe ratio with Omega-6 content. Researchers have proposed an ideal ratio of 3 to 1 for Omega-6 to Omega-3 content in dietary oils. Luckily for you, good hemp oil brands (such as those carried by Carolina Hemp Hut) have these ideal ratios.

Internal Health from Hemp Oil

Hemp and Brain Health

It's believed that the fatty acids available from hemp seed oil may benefit our brains. Brain health relies upon healthy fats to operate smoothly. There have been studies with mice and hemp seed oil which have shown positive impact of the fatty acids from hemp on the health and reduction of inflammation in the brain.

Hemp and Heart Health

There are recent studies revealing a strong linkage between hemp seed oils fatty acids and improved heart health. It's apparent that more studies are warranted on this. The overall health impact of hemp on cardiovascular disease may be significant.

Hemp and Beauty

Hemp Seed Oil has a significant amount of naturally occurring linoleic acid and oleic acids. These are known to play a vital role in skin health and anti-aging. Since these cannot be produced by humans naturally, inclusion of hemp seed oil in the diet is beneficial.

External Health from Hemp Oil

Natural Moisturizer and Anti-Inflammatory Agent

This is one of the expected benefits of hemp seed oil. People are typically familiar with the moisturizing quality of most oils. Additionally, the price for most Hemp Seed Oils in bulk (just a bottle of oil) is far cheaper than the typical processed oil product from a leading beauty company.

Delving into skin health further reveals studies published that support the use of hemp seed oil in many ways for skin health and reduction of inflammatory discomfort. Sure, Hemp Seed Oil may help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as we age. More significant benefits may appear due to the natural anti-inflammatory aspects of the GLA along with the other Omega-3 fatty acids. If you're suffering from eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, or similar, then hemp seed oil may be an important and helpful weapon in your health arsenal. We will be sure to share new discoveries with you as we uncover them.

Carolina Hemp Hut advocates using Hemp Seed Oil

We've been carrying Evo Hemp's wonderfully pure hemp seed oil in our store for quite a while. The product is made in the USA. It's minimally processed. Plus, it's a good value for your health. Even if you're not using cannabinoids for health, including hemp oil from Evo Hemp is a good idea, regardless.

The Coronavirus Face Mask Story

Face Mask Child protecting COVID19

The Custom Coronavirus Face Mask

Many people across the world are seeking better ways to protect themselves from infection with the Coronavirus. Across the United States, people have been searching for ways to prevent themselves and their family members from becoming another of the statistics with an infection or worse. This is why so many people have expressed concern over whether they need to protect themselves with a Coronovirus Face Mask of any sort.

Politics aside, we understand that authorities have spoken against the face masks for civilian usage against possible Coronavirus and for the use of face masks. People are taking it upon themselves to follow the practices in place in other countries by arming themselves with some barrier of protection against infection. People search for "how to make a face mask with fabric" and "pattern for face mask" to find the perfect face mask for Coronavirus 19. We're advised that even the acclaimed N95 masks are not foolproof tools to prevent infection. With this stated, why even use a face mask at all?

The use of a Coronavirus Face Mask is difficult for many authorities to agree upon but the clear advantages of having a face mask at all are:

  1. A face covering of any sort causes the wearer to think twice about touching their face, thus possibly introducing the virus from their hand to their nasal cavity.
  2. A mask constructed of two layers of heavyweight cotton or similar with a with a thread count of at least 180 acts as some barrier to possible infectious material.
  3. Wearing a face mask helps others stay clear by alerting them of your level of caution

While each of these can be deconstructed and critiqued far more, the gist is that people can boost their protection level simply by wearing a suitable covering for their mouths and noses whenever in public and in some cases, at home. This is what led our esteemed team member, Jenni Sniffen, to create the prototype Coronavirus face mask for use in the local community of Hillsborough where the Flagship store of the Carolina Hemp Hut is located.

image of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

Jenni is our lead budtender in our Hillsborough Flaghship store for Carolina Hemp Hut. She's also the assistant barista at the adjoining Cafe Cusco coffee bar. You could easily say she's a fan of serving people and helping others. Her project with the Coronavirus Face Masks began after a quick visit to the local grocery store where she met a local nurse.  Since Jenni is a very skilled seamstress already, her crafty nature moved into high gear. Her project included research into multiple variations of the face masks patterns found online. Only a few actually met the recommended guidelines from medical authorities. She erred on the side of caution and chose a design which had both comfort and a high level of protection built in.

Pattern for Face Mask

Since the Coronavirus Face Mask users are likely to wear the mask over extended periods, it was important to ensure that the masks were comfortable. This is why Jenni built several prototypes and tested them for comfort. It was discovered that the elastic cord masks, as often found in commercially available masks, were fully functional but often led to discomfort from binding or "too tight" of a fit. The cloth ties used in the final product ensure that the wearer is able to adjust to a secure yet comfortable fit. Jenni also tested other aspects of the construction until she crafted a suitable final prototype (as visible in the photo of Mary Lopez Carter).

Now, the entire team at the Carolina Hemp Hut stores is involved in manufacturing and distributing these hand-crafted face masks. Several people sewing, a couple of people in logistics and two handling procurement and operations means the Carolina Hemp Hut stores are building a structure for handing hundreds of masks a week. None of these masks are manufactured in China or abroad. The team agreed that this would be a Local operation to ensure that local jobs were maintained.

Thanks to the overall project plan, the entire staff of Carolina Hemp Hut was saved from a possible layoff due to the COVID19 pandemic concern. Now, the team is working to secure better health outcomes for their customers beyond the use of healthy hemp products.

"I'm just glad I'm able to lead the charge to help more people who aren't going to buy our CBD and other products. Now we're helping people who are skeptical about the benefits of hemp. They're not skeptical about protection from COVID," said Jenni when asked what made her happy with her new-found success. "I really started to help local healthcare workers and some at-risk homebound patients, now we're helping the country in our own small way. This makes me really happy. It's just great that a simple vision was turned into something really big by just a few caring and hard-working people."

"The entire operation for the Face Mask production evolved from a whiteboard to reality in less than a week. Every member of the regular Hemp team has had a hand in producing masks for people. From cutting fabric to sewing to packing for shipment, everyone has jumped in at our little store in Hillsborough. Big things are happening to help others and I couldn't be more pleased," said Mary Lopez Carter, founder of the Carolina Hemp Hut stores. "I'm shocked that there are so many people calling and messaging us online. Our Facebook inbox on our page is swamped with people looking for masks. It's a really good problem in that we had the forethought to start building the structure to help people before it became a big problem across our country. I'm just hopeful someone in government doesn't change their mind and decide people don't need to have face masks. It's been so confusing already for people."

Some Important Tips on the Face Masks

To ensure long lasting quality of your face mask, it's important to follow the following guidelines:

  1. Clean your hands with soap and water or hand sanitizer before touching the mask.
  2. Keep your mask clean. You can use a spray of Hydrogen Peroxide (this may bleach the mask) on the inside of the mask. Leave the mask for 48hrs in a paper bag for it to dry while allowing the gasses from the spray to escape. You may also wash the mask in your washing machine (gentle cycle is best) with suitable detergent. Dishwasher may also be used but may bleach the mask. Be sure to bundle the ties to prevent damage from moving parts.
  3. Wear your mask properly. Don't move your mask to the top of your head or below your chin. When you wear it on your face, it's more effective in blocking pathogens. If you move it around, it's bound to come in contact with more pathogens. When wearing bring the mask to your nose level and place the ties over the crown of your head and secure with a bow (knot).
  4. Mold or pinch the stiff nose piece to the shape of your nose. Then take the bottom ties, one in each hand, and secure with a bow at the nape of your neck.
  5. Carefully pull the bottom of the mask over your mouth and chin and check to be sure there are no gaps.

We recommend multiple masks for each person or frequent washing whenever possible. If you get multiple masks, we're going to continue to stock and custom craft fashion-oriented masks. This will give our customers variety with more options for daily wear.

Since every mask is now made to order, people are getting more choices in the coming weeks with more fabric choices and other options. It's important to note that all mask orders will take about 2-4 days for processing to allow for full crafting time. Patience is appreciated. The team will continue to provide email updates to all customers as orders are received and processed.

What do Isolate, Broad Spectrum and Full Spectrum mean?

Isolate, Broad Spectrum, Full spectrum

“I keep seeing Isolate and Broad Spectrum and Full Spectrum”

We really don’t want a lot of confusion among our customers. People come into our stores and frequently have some bewilderment when it comes to what they’re actually getting. What we end up discovering is that most of the time, they know enough about CBD and Hemp Oil Extract to be in the store and curious, but not enough to to make the wise choices. This is where we come in. We start out by helping them with the answer to: “What do isolate, broad-spectrum, and full-spectrum mean?”

Many people are becoming more aware of the source of CBD and other cannabinoids: The Hemp Plant. The innocuous hemp plant or cannabis sativa is often confused with it’s kissing cousing, marijuana. They’re both from the same family, but they have different behaviors due to the compounds they contain. Think of it this way, a Great Dane and a Chihuahua would admittedly dogs. However, we know that they are completely different in size, temperament, behavior and even bark.  Hemp and Marijuana are the same as dogs in this regard.

When the a crop of hemp is taken to an extractor, there are many steps to the total extraction process possible for the mass of plant material. Extraction is what is used to remove the key compounds from the biomass (the hemp crop). The results the extraction starts with full spectrum crude. This is further processed into many forms, particularly Isolate, Broad and Full Spectrum extracts.

The terms are often confused as many product manufacturer presently try to avoid the hassles associated with some sales platforms (such as Amazon.com) and payment processors (most payment processors for retail will not support Hemp retail sales still). This simple guide will provide the best starting point for most people beginning with the world of Hemp and cannabinoids:

1. Isolate

This one is pretty clear to many, but it still may be confusing. First, it’s an Isolate of something. For the hemp products, this means Isolate of Cannabidiol (CBD). When an extraction process removed all other compounds from the hemp oil except for the Cannabidiol, the result is often called just Isolate. This of course is the shortened form of “Isolated Cannabidiol”. The beauty of CBD isolate is that it’s very easy to mix in liquids of various types and it is odorless and relatively tasteless. Many edible manufacturers use Isolate instead of any other form because of the lack of taste or flavor.

2. Broad Spectrum

Hemp Oil Extract starts with full spectrum crude. Further extraction processes on this crude will result in cleaner (less taste, less plant material) distillate. It’s possible to create what is called Broad Spectrum by targeting the specific compound of Δ-9 Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and removing it as the rest of the compounds “pass through” and become part of the cleaner distillate. This effectively makes the product almost a full spectrum, but is missing the THC, the key compound which is associated with the “high” from marijuana. Keep in mind, you cannot get high from hemp products if they are within the legal limits of THC. This is why Broad Spectrum is very popular for many in school, law enforcement, transportation and workplaces where THC is forbidden.

3. Full Spectrum

When Hemp is extracted, the first form is typically crude. By it’s nature, this crude extract is full spectrum as it contains all of the extracted spectrum of cannabinoids from the hemp plant. This does mean that the extract may contain a trace amount of Δ-9 Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and it may contain more than the legal limit, depending on the strain and extraction. As long as the extract is from a legal industrial hemp plant, it’s legal in all 50 States under the US Farm Bill of 2018. Legal full spectrum crude is often further distilled to remove the chlorophyll and other plant material from the extract. This results in a less “hempy” tasting extract. Most products prefer the second pass of distillate to ensure for suitable taste and higher cannabidiol levels. Some of the lesser-processed hemp oil extracts result in very earthy (some would say skunky or even dank) tasting products. There’s no clear advantage other than cost of production to having a single pass distillate vs cleaner distillates full spectrum hemp oil extract.

What's the Best form of Hemp Oil Extract for me?

Hemp Oil extract, whether is’t in the Isolate, Broad Spectrum or Full Spectrum form is helpful to the human body due to the presence of the endocannabinoid system. This system works with plant-based cannabinoids, called phytocannabinoids, to regulate and manage various aspects of our health.

A purified form of the Isolate of Cannabidiol (CBD) is now used in an FDA-approved drug called Epidiolex. This drug is used to help manage the symptoms of Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome, in patients two years of age and older. These are both forms of epilepsy. Although not approved by the FDA, people have been using forms of hemp, including those with higher THC, to treat epilepsy and other conditions for many years. These conditions include anxiety, pain, fibromyalgia, MS, and others. Whether or not these treatments are effective remains anecdotal at present. Industrial hemp is being tested for many medical uses currently and it’s likely that we will find more uses for hemp for health in the near future. It’s important to note that there are no allowable patents on natural products. This means a drug company would have to alter the original compound or combine it with other compounds to essentially create a man-made product which would be allowed for patent protection. This is one reason why many people believe the pharmaceutical industry is against the use of natural products resulting from Industrial Hemp (and other forms of cannabis).

If you’re seeking to remain clear of all forms of THC for job purposes or some similar reason, it’s best to attempt to offer your body as many of the helpful and often therapeutic cannabinoids as possible. This is why people should first consider a Broad Spectrum, without any THC, as a natural booster to health and as a possible agent in reducing discomfort from pain or anxiety or a host of other conditions. When “popping” on a drug test is a high risk, some of the cannabinoids may be detected by some testing processes as THC or “general cannabinoid” and would cause issue for some people. In these cases, an Isolate or avoiding all forms of Hemp Oil Extract would be preferred. If you can, you may consider asking for special consideration for isolated CBD or broad spectrum, when possible. Some employers are lenient as long as they know that the concentration of THC is minor or nonexistent with most people who use Broad Spectrum or Isolate CBD.

If you’re seeking to eliminate discomfort from pain and boost your responsiveness to fighting discomfort from anxiety AND you’re not going to have a drug test in your future, it’s a good idea to consider the trace amount of THC in the Full Spectrum products as beneficial. NIH published studies confirm that THC and other cannabinoids are beneficial as natural agents and within other compounds to combat pain.

Choosing the Best Hemp Oil Extract Product

When you’re already able to choose the form (full spectrum, broad spectrum, or isolate), then you’re going to be far more prepared to select the best product for yourself. The hemp products industry has been keeping the prices of simple isolates relatively affordable for everyone. Although there are some players in the industry who are preying on those of use who are “just learning”, nearly all reputable vendors of CBD products are keeping the products very fairly priced. A good rule of thumb would be to drop the zero in the total milligrams of an isolate product to get the street price or reasonable market price of the product. For example, a 200mg to 250mg one ounce bottle of hemp oil extract drops (Isolate CBD) should cost no more than $20 to $25 (see where the extra zero in the milligrams was dropped to make this easy?).

When it comes to broad or full spectrum, there’s a bit of a finer line in the price of the products. Each of these typically cost upwards of 1.25x to 3x the price of a comparably sized isolate. As an example, a broad spectrum product (no THC) from Kalki in 250mg has a retail price of $29.95. These can be purchased at many trusted stores for full retail or a bit less, when on sale. Finding these products for the price of an isolate is more difficult as the isolates are very simple to manufacture while the others require more effort. Some manufacturers have more expensive marketing or higher levels of quality and these too will increase the price of the product. However, these more expensive products also tend to be backed by more transparent guarantees for quality and service (even returns). You’ll seldom find this level of quality management from the lower priced isolate brands or vendors.

To find the best product for yourself, it’s often best to combine the two considerations 1) form of hemp oil extract and 2) price or budget. You can always consider other options such as gummies, beverages, vapes or similar. The majority of hemp oil extract products sold still are drops. Keep these in mind as you shop around for your best new source of relief from discomfort thank to industrial hemp.
