Duke Faculty Chooses CBD

Duke University professor enjoys Carolina Hemp Hut THC-free CBD products

When it comes to aches and pains as we age, many of us are accustomed to simply attempting to shrug it off and dealing with it. You simply do not have to do this! At the Carolina Hemp Hut, we work to introduce people to more natural and simpler methods to assist in improving your level of comfort.

Duke Professor with Aches and Pains

A Duke University professor who lives near Durham Academy in Colony Park neighborhood of Durham ventured into the Carolina Hemp Hut – Durham location this past week to explore options for muscle and joint discomfort from gardening and occasional tennis. She was concerned about THC in the product due to possible drug testing. She was able to consult with one of our trained Cannabis Consultants and learned of several ways to ease the discomfort she was facing nearly daily. When this Duke Faculty member Chooses CBD, she chooses a Broad Spectrum muscle rub from Kalki, available at the Hut.

Cannabis, specifically Hemp, has a track record of providing relief of discomfort for many over the ages. It has been used since before recorded history as a natural medicine. Until recently, it was more of a mystery as to why it helped people. It was not until the 20th century that researchers discovered the more significant botanical compounds such as Delta-9 THC and Cannabidiol (CBD). The discoveries have led more researchers to dedicate more resources to determining more beneficial aspects available from the cannabis family.

Since the medicinal compound of Delta-9 THC is also a psychoactive ingredient within cannabis, many people are concerned since the Federal government banned the use of cannabis. Many are also concerned about whether they will face issues at work or from law enforcement for buying Hemp products.

In 2018, the US Farm Bill made the cultivation, distribution, and sale of Hemp products legal. Now that CBD and other hemp-derived compounds and products are available at stores such as the Carolina Hemp Hut, people can find over-the-counter solutions.

Customers such as the esteemed Duke professor are often presented with an array of cannabis product options which have anecdotal support and related medical research. Most typically, products that are useful for addressing the discomfort as described above from aging and activity include:

    • Balms, Salves, Lotions, and Ointments (topical products)
    • Drops or Tinctures (sublingual products)
    • Gummies, edibles, and capsules (oral products)

I never knew I would be able to find something to help me stop my sciatica pain without Oxycodone or Gabapentin being involved. I started taking Hemp Oil [sic} from the Durham CBD Hut [Carolina Hemp Hut] and found I only had a little pain left. I was happy to find an inexpensive natural solution to pharmaceutical products.

J. Ingraham, Durham, NC

When customers desire the most direct benefit, we have discovered that people prefer to use the topical products if the pain and aches are on their extremities or back/shoulders. When the discomfort is originating from inflammation such as arthritis or other conditions, then the sublingual or oral routes are preferred.

Since the Carolina Hemp Hut stores provide a larger variety of each of these product categories that most stores in the State of North Carolina, we can provide a range of options for them that allow for better affordability with consideration of premium quality brands, natural ingredients, and strength (in milligrams) or size of product. Our customers are given the needed education to assist them in making the most informed decisions for their hemp health.

Bona Vida Hemp Body Butter with Full Spectrum CBD
Premium Bona Vida Hemp™ Body Butter

For those customers wishing to steer clear of Delta-9 THC, we offer wonderful THC-Free products from various manufacturers such as Hemplucid’s Kalki, CBD Infusionz, Canna River, and Bona Vida Hemp. These products are made from Isolated CBD instead of the full spectrum hemp extracts that are used in so many other products. This allows for the fine benefits of naturally occurring CBD (cannabidiol) without the worry of Delta-9 THC. If you have concerns over drug-testing for THC, it is still a good idea to avoid all forms of Cannabis, even those with zero THC. This is simply because urinalysis tests as opposed to blood tests are more apt to show incorrectly that you are a consumer of illicit drugs when you may not be at all.

The Duke University students and faculty who visit the Carolina Hemp Hut store on Durham-Chapel Hill Boulevard (15/501) have already learned many of the products offered by the team and appreciate the wide selection.

Two enterprising students at Duke University convinced the marketing team at Carolina Hemp Hut to create a special discount code for students and faculty for online orders. The promo code was designed to be only for those “in the know” at Duke. One of the students told their professor about the “secret discount” and they visited the Durham Carolina Hemp Hut store.

Thanks to the Duke students, another professor engaged the CBD Consultant on duty to discuss his back pain. The enterprising professor was able to pick up a jar of soothing salve from Hemp Adaptives™ which may be the best natural reliever of discomfort for back pain. Again, Duke faculty chooses CBD from Carolina Hemp Hut.

When addressing pains and and aches, CBD may be an answer to the discomfort you feel. Whether you have discomfort from Anxiety or from Pain and Aches, you may be able to match topical CBD, ingestible CBD (such as Full Spectrum CBD edibles), Capsules, and the mainstay from the land of CBD, drops.

The population of Duke Faculty members and students visiting Carolina Hemp Hut is significant. Maybe there is a reason they bypass grocery stores and vape stores with CBD and each chooses CBD from the Hut instead.

When it comes to investigating products for your health concerns with the aid of botanical products, the team at each of the Carolina Hemp Hut stores is prepared and educated in the spectrum of cannabinoid products available. When you’re driving down Durham-Chapel Hill Boulevard (15/501) in Durham, it is a good idea to stop by the Hut for a preview of some of our wonderful products. Our shop is not far from the Durham Academy campus and Duke University. You’ll be impressed with the enormous selection.

What about the Liver?

Ethanol Based Solvents may be safe for CBD

We’ve heard this too. People using anecdotal information from others to make claims about CBD and health risks.

Let’s quickly get to the facts to dispel possible rumors. First, most CBD is extracted via CO2 or Ethanol extraction. When ethanol extractions is used (or a similar chemical extraction), the alcohol is used as a solvent to pull the CBD and other oil-based components from the dried hemp material. This solvent should be evaporated or removed in another method to prevent it from remaining with the concentrated CBD and oils.

It is possible some manufacturers (or backyard processors) will leave some solvent behind before continuing the preparation of the extracts for sale or distribution. These solvents MAY cause issues with some people. The alcohol is less likely to be an issue, but others can be more of an issue. It’s a really good idea to ask for a COA (Certificate of Analysis) from the retailer. If they don’t have it, then go elsewhere. Major brands such as Hemplucid, Charlottes Web, and Nature’s Love store these COAs on their sites. If you come across a “no name” brand, check for the COA. You’l see the analysis and should be able to determine whether it’s solvent rich and possibly harmful.

The Carolina Hemp Hut is expanding!

Hemp Day Video: Drug Testing could Get you Fired for CBD, Learn what to do First!

What happens when you get Drug Tested when taking CBD?

What Can Your HR Department do?

Let’s say you’re working for Corporate America. No harm there, unless your organization has a habit of doing drug testing. The typical drug test seeks to discover whether you’re taking illegal drugs such as Cocaine, Meth, Marijuana and CBD.

Wait, what?

Not really. CBD or Cannibidiol isn’t actively targeted in the drug testing in nearly all test kits available. However, most of us know that THC is the targeted “drug” from Hemp or Marijuana. The people who take the time to understand the biology associated with Hemp understand that CBD is NOT the psychoactive component within the Hemp plant.

It’s been shown where THC is beneficial to our health. This article isn’t to sing the praises of THC, but I suggest that you search within Google or another search engine for benefits of THC from medical publications (use PubMed in the search string).

Mary Lòpez Carter has been advocating for broader acceptance of CBD in the workplace. Because some CBD products contain THC (legal limit of .3% THC), it’s possible some drug tests will “pop” for showing THC in your system. Are you a drug user at this point? Not really. You have part of the overall spectrum of cannabinoids in your system. CBD = Good. THC = Bad. According to the law.

As mentioned before, THC has been shown to be beneficial (visit the reports). But if you have it in your system, you could be in dire straights with your employer if you test positive for it – including when your CBD has a very small amount of THC in it. How can you avoid the trouble of CBD (especially the “full spectrum oils which also include THC in trace amounts)?

Proactive Steps for You to Follow

It’s Key to Be Proactive.

  1. Speak with your Medical Professional and Get a Note detailing you’re taking CBD Oil.
  2. Inform your HR department (great if done in writing, paper trail) and show the Dr. Note.
  3. Buy trusted CBD Oil that may be full spectrum, but offers below the legal limit of .3% THC

In my video, I mentioned a very exciting product coming soon to Hemp Oil Rockstar. It’s a No THC Full Spectrum offering. For those of you who are purists in the terminology, you’re likely to argue that “No, this is broad spectrum” and you may be correct from your viewpoint. We’re glad that there’s technology that allows for the full entourage effect without people worrying over whether they will “pop” in drug tests. Be on the look out soon for our Zero THC products at Hemp Oil Rockstar and Carolina Hemp Huts.

WRAL Covers Benefits of CBD Oil

WRAL continues to Cover CBD shops and CBD products like those at Carolina Hemp Hut

Raleigh, NC News Station Covers North Carolina and CBD

In a recent on air piece (and online), entitle “5 ON YOUR SIDE: What is Cannabidiol? The ABCs OF CBD”, WRAL of Raleigh, NC summarized some of the benefits people seek with the aid of CBD (shortened form of the word cannibidiol). Monica Laliberte, WRAL executive producer/consumer reporter, revealed that many North Carolinians are embracing CBD to help with health conditions such as anxiety, epilepsy and other conditions.

We’re happy to be a leader in the Triangle Area for CBD sales since we opened our Online Store with Hemp Oil Rockstar and our Online and Streets at Southpoint Mall Store, Carolina Hemp Hut.

Mary Lòpez Carter, the founder of Hemp Oil Rockstar and the Carolina Hemp Hut stores, started selling hemp oil products in 2017 after she did copious research into products which would help her husband, David Pratt Carter, beat cancer (he had a malignant intracranial tumor). She discovered the promising impact of CBD on people’s health. She opened Hemp Oil Rockstar online in early 2018. Soon after finding success with Hemp Oil Rockstar, she leaded space at the Streets at Southpoint mall in Durham, NC to establish a more permanent location to help people of the community with better health options. On October 19, 2018, Mary and her team opened Carolina Hemp Hut in the mall (located near the Microsoft Store). Mary and the team continue to educate consumers with information from scientists, researchers and medical professionals on the benefits of hemp oil extracts.

Even though the Federal Laws on CBD are contradictory, Mary vows to continue bringing 100% Farm Bill Compliant (less than .3% THC) products to North Carolinians in her stores.

“I’m essentially a good health activist. I want to make sure that people know what the studies have revealed about CBD and Hemp Products and I educate them on the products that are legally available to them,” said Mary in a recent interview.

Mary Lòpez Carter also produces educational videos for YouTube and Podcasts entitled “Hemp Day” to assist people in making educated choices with CBD products and avoid scams.

Buy CBD from Legitimate and Tested CBD providers, not from Scammers like Brighten CBD and Star CBD

This is the standard sample image changed all the time by the scammer with CBD

Are you Following the Scammers in the CBD World?

Well, it may not be illegal, but it is unfair: Some companies use Google ads to promote CBD. Those that do this are breaking the rules set by Google. When a company does this, it’s unfair since the marketplace is pretty much empty due to Google’s Rules. When the rules are in place and everyone follows the same set of rules, it creates a balanced marketplace. When a company such as those selling Brighten CBD are cheating, it unbalances the marketplace.

If you consider the 300mg CBD Isolate a bargain at $60 or $50, then you’re in good shape. Watch this video. If you think that a company should be transparent and detail what Organic Certification should be then you should shy away from companies such as Brighten CBD and others that are under the same umbrella of deceit. David Pratt Carter filled in today for Mary Lòpez Carter as she has been preparing for Black Friday deals in her Carolina Hemp Hut store in Durham North Carolina. CBD and Hemp Oil Sales have been going really well for her and she’s not about to stop her good work while she has a trusty stand in for her video.

David researched more on the “scams” with CBD Trials and found that one of the biggest scammers (those behind the names of Star CBD, Brighten CBD and others) are still at their nefarious game. David calls them out by showing what they’re doing to cheat the system and make things unfair to legitimate and likely higher quality CBD and Hemp Oil extract salespeople and retailers across the country. CBD to buy should be pretty straight forward and even keeled. When we find people cheating with the product quality or similar, count on the folks at Hemp Oil Rockstar to speak up.

Hemp Day Video: David Pratt Carter is talking about Scammers in CBD

Editor’s Note:

We’ve included a couple of images from websites known to sell over-priced and CBD weak products. We suggest if you come across an ad or similar which contains product images similar to those shown here, even if different brands, you should keep searching.

A Great Source for your CBD Medical Info

CBD Products under Scrutiny by Researchers

Isn’t CBD Oil just Another Form of “Snake Oil”?

It’s amazing how many people have been deeply conditioned to believe that all things hemp are illegal and/or bad for you. Our government, for years, stood by the premise that hemp products are not helpful for us and they’re not legal. When this set of laws got a “comeuppance” with the last Farm Bill, we saw a steady rise in acceptance of Hemp Extract and related products. Mainly it’s due to the very clear understanding of many that CBD does HELP.

It’s a good thing to do some basic research and learn that CBD is being studied as a potential “official” treatment for maladies as diverse as schizophrenia, insomnia and cancer. We’ve heard reports of people with conditions such as autism, PTSD, overall anxiety and others are ALSO successful with the use of CBD and Hemp Oil.

We love highlighting one study associated with PTSD coordinated by Dr. Esther Blessing, an assistant professor at the New York University School of Medicine. She’s coordinated a study of CBD as an effective treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder and other related illnesses.

One aspect of CBD that has been underscored in a number of studies is that it’s not easy to find the “overdose” point with CBD. A general result from taking too much CBD has been general malaise or short term GI distress. But this is typically found only with extreme dosing (greater than 3000mg at a dose for example).

As a handy resource for you and your friends, please consider sharing the handy database for the National Institutes of Health database. With this database, you can find more than 150 of studies involving CBD as a treatment for many different health situations.

You’ll be pleased to learn that even our government has proven that CBD and Hemp Oil are effective in helping eliminate discomfort for so many people. Use the recent approval of Epidiolex by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as an oral solution for the treatment of seizures associated with two rare and severe forms of epilepsy, Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome, in patients two years of age and older. This is the first FDA-approved drug that contains a purified drug substance derived from marijuana. It is also the first FDA approval of a drug for the treatment of patients with Dravet syndrome.

Plus, if you’re worried about addiction and related problems, Administration of a therapeutic dose of CBD (750 mg) showed significantly low abuse potential in a highly sensitive population of polydrug users. So far, other studies show little to no addiction among Cannabidiol users.

Hemp Adaptives CBD-based Beauty

Will CBD Help with Anxiety?

It’s acknowledged that Speaking In Public is one of the most common fears behind death and dying. If you were asked to go to the front of an auditorium and present information about a product or service your company is offering, you’d likely feel a wave of nervousness.

This is very common.

You may find that CBD does work and has been shown to help reduce anxiety. This could hold true for things such as:

  • Test Anxiety
  • Deal Negotiations
  • Public Speaking
  • Agoraphobia

As researchers continue their journey to determine the benefits and the drawbacks of compounds such as CBD, we will continue to report on it.

We’re Growing!

Carolina Hemp Hut opens at the Streets at Southpoint Mall in Durham

The First CBD Oriented Kiosk will open in North Carolina at the Streets of Southpoint Mall

Southpoint Mall, Durham, NC  A shop known as The Carolina Hemp Hut that specializes in one of the active components in cannabis, but not the one that gets you high, will open at The Streets at Southpoint Mall as a Kiosk. The Hemp Oil Rockstar, also known as Mary Lòpez Carter, a local Realtor®, will open a kiosk near the Nordstrom’s and JC Penney stores at the mall. The shop’s grand opening will be held Saturday, October 27.

Cannabidiol, or CBD as it is often shortened, is a chemical compound derived from the cannabis plant often produced by licensed Industrial Hemp growers and processors. The oil from the extract, also known as hemp oil, does not produce a psychoactive high like marijuana does. The active ingredient in marijuana is tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC. The legal limit of THC in any NC CBD store item is a maximum of .3% total THC.

Holistic health advocates claim there are many health benefits of using CBD. Such benefits may include abatement of some pain, reduction of inflammation, improved sleep plus anxiety relief among other claimed benefits. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has not evaluated any of the claims of the benefits of using CBD.

Carter is a practicing Realtor® in the Triangle area and the co-owner of a regional Marketing company, Ideas Envy LLC.

The Grand Opening will feature specials on CBD Gummies and other edibles for adults. In addition, all customers will receive discount cards for future purchases.

Ms. Carter has long advocated for acceptance of CBD as an alternative to conventional drugs since her husband, David, was diagnosed with a recurring brain tumor. “CBD has been shown in scientific and medical journals as effective against many types of cancer and adverse health conditions. I’m glad the US Farm Bill allowed for further acceptance of Hemp and its non-psychoactive products.”

Beware of Trial Offers in CBD

CBD Free Trial Offer Scammers

How to tell if you found a CBD or similar Scam: My story of one Scammer.

I’m writing this article (and filmed the accompanying video) based upon real-life experiences. The best stories are grounded in reality. Right? I had to do some homework to learn more about how to tell if you found a CBD or Hemp Oil scam.

If you’ve heard any of Mary Carter’s (Mary Carter is my wife and she’s the founder of Hemp Oil Rockstar and Carolina Hemp Hut), then you may know that the primary reason she dove into the CBD world is because she was worried that my cancer would return. A little less than two years ago, Mary got me going with CBD Oil from a vendor recommended by an acquaintance. This new oil was very expensive (about $130 for less than a month’s usage).

I was filling in time while watching a show with my wife. My iPad was in my lap and I was cruising the web in search of CBD for cheap. I found site that had all of the requisite language and pretty pictures. Star Trial CBD was calling me. It was late in the evening and to my benefit, I wasn’t supposed to be buying anything. I didn’t have my reading glasses on. I shouldn’t have even considered looking at the ad for this CBD oil.

But, I did.

Star CBD is just one example of the Same Crooks, different name

The Real Deal with CBD Trial Offers

The CBD Oil which you can buy from Carolina Hemp Hut, Hemp Oil Rockstar, Charlotte’s Web and others is going to come from reputable farms, reputable refiners and from reputable retailers. SOME of the CBD that comes from some shops, however, leaves a lot to be desired.

Some retailers have been buying CBD oil in concentrate (from isolate or from spectrum). They take this relatively strong isolate and blend the CBD oil with various calculated amounts of things like MCT (think, cleaned up coconut oil), sunflower seed oil or another carrier oil. This process is actually normal. Again, the reputable vendors will make sure that their oil sold matches the strength and the content (you’d be surprised that the shady providers will often “water down” their oils to considerably less than the stated strength).

The Star brand of CBD Oil is from an isolate. It’s also very weak (100 mg of CBD only). This means it’s packaged with carrier oils. Thus, the 1 oz bottle that they package this oil within is really a 1 oz bottle of carrier oil with a drop or few of concentrated CBD Oil isolate. Gimmicky advertising and names like “Hemp Pure” or “Pure CBD” are therefore a bit misleading. It’s not pure CBD Oil.

The Trial Offer programs will sign you up to a “buying club” of sorts with your trial offer. The prices of the various scamming offers on the web do vary, but they’re typically around $5.00 a bottle.

Along comes the Spider

“Wow, CBD Oil for only $4.95?!” Yes, you can bet I was excited. With my addled view (recall that I didn’t have my reading glasses on – so, screw the fine print) I could clearly see I get a bottle of CBD oil in a free bottle to try out. Well, I needed CBD oil – so SIGN ME UP!

Big mistake.

Simple Steps to spotting a CBD Scam

  1. Look for Attractive Character. Is it a “Lab Coat Cutie”? Here’s one now.
    CBD Scam
  2. Look for Terms and Conditions. READ these. Absolutely. Here’s a sample of the hidden scam text:
    CBD Scam Free Trial Offer
    CBD Scam Free Trial Offer
  3. Look for unlinked review links and fake testimonials.Fake Facebook reviews in CBD Scam
All of the above clues should be clear to you after reading this article. We’re keen on helping people STOP GETTING RIPPED OFF by slimy hidden operations selling anything – especially CBD which we work hard to offer as a very reliable vendor. Be a smart consumer. Do your research and even CALL the Vendor. If you can’t talk to them, don’t buy from them. This alone is a good policy to keep you safer than ever.

When Free Isn’t Free

I actually received the product that they had specified. However, it wasn’t in a fancy cardboard box like it was in the photos on the web site. I didn’t get crazy of this though. The product was the 100mg bottle of CBD oil. Just the bottle. I slid the bottle back into it’s padded envelope and tossed it aside – I had lots of work to do and the bottle was not a priority.

A couple of weeks later, as I finally had some spare time, I opened the package again and read the bottle of CBD oil. It dawned on me that it was only 100 mg when I bought it. But, I figured that $5 was worth it. The $5 wasn’t all though.

My credit card statement revealed that I was charged for the shipping and handling fee of $4.95. I also was charged a few days later for a “membership fee”. Uh, what?

To add insult to injury, I receive a second bottle of 100mg oil and a shocking charge of nearly $100 on my Credit Card statement. This drove me to action. I ended up taking care of the transaction and canceling everything with the “staff” at this company (it was Star brand, but the call center sounds like a sweatshop filled with people taking complaint calls). The mail order company had a clever trial gimmick which captured people within a “club” which has a monthly fee and the product cost which was exorbitant.

I learned from this experience. Now I carefully read the terms and conditions of all “memberships” and order fine print. I grab my reading glasses when I see something that’s “too good to be true.” Since it’s often too good to be true, I am safer being more of a stickler to the details.

If you’d like a list of Scam centered Trial Basis companies, let me know in the comments and I will get the list emailed to you. I keep making additions to the list – this way more people are aware.
