Y’all, this Texas girl is concerned. My heart goes out to everyone back home as Senate Bill 3 (SB3) moves closer to becoming law. It’s a bill that would ban most hemp-derived THC products, like Delta-8, Delta-10, and THCA, and it’s putting access, wellness, and livelihoods on the line. That’s why I’m speaking up now to help keep hemp legal in Texas while there’s still time.
If Governor Abbott signs SB3, thousands of Texans could lose access to safe, plant-based alternatives they rely on daily, for pain, anxiety, PTSD, and more. Over 6,000 small businesses and more than 53,000 jobs would be at risk. We’re not out of options yet, but we need to act quickly and respectfully to protect what matters.
What SB3 Would Do to Hemp Access in Texas
Let’s be clear: This bill goes beyond regulation. It would prohibit products that are federally legal and widely used. SB3 would make any hemp product with detectable levels of THC illegal in Texas. That includes many common and helpful formulations of CBD, Delta-8, and THCA that are compliant under federal law.
Supporters of the bill may claim it’s about protecting public safety, but the reality is this: It strips away safe access to plant-based alternatives that have helped countless Texans find relief. Veterans. Seniors. Working parents. People with chronic pain or trauma.
This law would remove legal access to products that many people depend on for daily wellness.
The Human Cost: Who SB3 Hurts the Most
At Carolina Hemp Hut, we’ve served customers from all walks of life. Many are from Texas. They share stories about finally getting a full night’s sleep, managing chronic back pain, reducing seizures, or finding peace after trauma. Hemp helped when other options didn’t.
If SB3 becomes law, all of that goes away.
- Veterans who use Delta-8 or THCA for PTSD and pain could lose access.
- Seniors managing arthritis, inflammation, or insomnia might have to turn to pharmaceuticals again.
- Parents of epileptic children could be forced to break the law to keep their children stable.
- Low-income Texans could lose affordable, effective alternatives they depend on.
These aren’t abstract policy consequences. These are real people. Real lives. Real health is on the line.
Small Businesses at Risk: 6,000+ Shops and 53,000 Jobs
The hemp industry in Texas isn’t made up of faceless corporations. These are moms and dads running local storefronts, or veterans who opened shops after finding healing for themselves. Young entrepreneurs are also committed to wellness and transparency.
SB3 would wipe that all out. A ban on detectable THC doesn’t just hurt dispensaries, it kills an entire supply chain. Farmers, formulators, delivery drivers, designers. It’s a domino effect.
These are the kinds of businesses that sponsor local Little League teams, donate to food drives, and create real, lasting relationships in their communities. Taking them down over a bill like SB3 doesn’t just hurt the economy, it damages the fabric of Texas towns.
And if it happens in Texas, other states could follow.
Let Me Get Personal With You for a Moment
I’m not just someone who works in hemp. I’m from Texas. I grew up in Houston and later moved to Austin, a city that’s always been proud of its small business roots and big community heart.
Austin taught me the value of supporting your neighbors, shopping local, and celebrating wellness outside the mainstream. That’s why this hits so hard, because when you take away hemp access, you’re not just banning a product, you’re tearing away part of the very spirit of Texas.
You lose the heart of Texas when you lose the heart of small business. I knew I had to take action where I could to help share this message and support the community that shaped me.
Why Everyone Should Care, Even Outside Texas
Texas isn’t just another state. It’s one of the largest hemp markets in the country. What happens there could shape national policy. If SB3 becomes law, other lawmakers may see it as a green light to push similar bans in their states.
North Carolina. Florida. Georgia. California. Nobody is immune.
And let’s be honest, if access is stripped away in a state like Texas, known for its fierce independence and support for small business, what’s stopping other states from falling in line?
This is more than just a Texas problem. This is a test for the entire hemp industry.
