What is Cannabidiol used to treat?

Cannabidiol is the main compound found within Epidiolex. Epidiolex is an oral solution containing cannabidiol (CBD) that was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of two rare and severe forms of epilepsy: Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome. The approval of Epidiolex was based on the results of several clinical trials that demonstrated its efficacy in reducing the frequency and severity of seizures in patients with these conditions.

In the trials, patients with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome who were treated with Epidiolex experienced significant reductions in the frequency of seizures compared to those who received a placebo. The US Farm Bill 2018, which legalized hemp, was signed into law on December 20, 2018. So, the approval of Epidiolex by the FDA came several months before the legalization of hemp in the United States.

It’s important to note that while hemp and marijuana both come from the cannabis plant, hemp contains only trace amounts of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the psychoactive compound found in weed or marijuana, while marijuana can contain significant levels of THC. In contrast, Epidiolex is a pharmaceutical drug that contains pure CBD (cannabidiol) and is used to treat specific medical conditions. Simply stated: CBD was Approved for Treating Neurological Conditions associated with seizures.

Now that Hemp is legal, Will CBD remain legal too?
